Power & Privilege Keynote Speaker: Fatimah Hossaini

The Power & Privilege (P&P) Symposium is honored to welcome Afghan-Tehran born artist, photographer, curator and founder of the Mastooraat Organization Fatimah Hossaini to deliver the P&P keynote address today at 6 p.m. in the Reid Campus Center, Young Ballroom.

Celebrated as one of the youngest recipients of the prestigious Hypatia International Award, Hossaini was honored as a rising talent and youth ambassador by the Women’s Forum in France in 2022.

A tireless advocate for women’s and refugee rights, Hossaini’s art poignantly captures narratives of identity and femininity, with a particular focus on the Afghan experience. Renowned for her expertise in staged photography, Fatimah’s use of vibrant color and passionate storytelling are hallmarks of her acclaimed work. Her artwork has been exhibited globally, from solo exhibitions in Europe to renowned art festivals across Asia and the United States. Additionally, Hossaini’s work and thought-provoking articles have been featured in leading publications such as Time, The Guardian, Vogue, Arte and many more.

P&P Symposium Day is Thursday, Feb. 20. All are invited to attend the different sessions throughout the day led by members of the Whitman community! Drop-In Tutoring Sessions

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is pleased to announce free, drop-in tutoring sessions by the ARC Peer Tutor Network every Wednesday and Sunday this semester. 

Wednesdays from 8–9 p.m. (two locations)

  • ARC (Olin 334): Academic Coaching, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, French, Hispanic Studies, Mathematics and Statistics, Psychology, Sociology
  • Anderson Hall (in collaboration with Residence Life): Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics

Vote on a New Name for Los Ojos de Whitman

The Hispanic Studies Department seeks input on renaming the Los Ojos de Whitman literary and art magazine. Based on the suggestions that were provided last semester, the editors have narrowed it down to three options. Voting ends today. 

 

Whitman Athletics Raising Money To Help People Affected by California Wildfires

The recent wildfires in Southern California have forced thousands of people from their homes, including friends and family of the Whitman athletic community. Whitman student-athletes are currently seeking donations to support relief efforts led by the American Red Cross.

 

Share Your Feedback With The Princeton Review

Whitman students are invited to complete The Princeton Review survey to share their unique perspective and experiences about academics, social activities, residence life, food and more. Participants will be entered for a chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card! These anonymous insights help guide future college-bound students and will be featured in The Princeton Review’s resources. Responses are due by end of day on Thursday, Feb. 20.

 

Nominate a Staff Member for the Janice Abraham Award

Each year, Whitman College recognizes staff members with the Janice Abraham Award, celebrating staff who have gone above and beyond job expectations in providing outstanding service to our campus community. Nominations for this award (and many others) will be accepted through Wednesday, March 12.
