Spring Break Begins Next Week

Our campus will be quieter during the next two weeks as many students will be away during their spring break. Residence halls will be closed; however, you may still see some students around campus as accommodations have been made for those students not traveling during break.
All academic buildings will be accessible only with a Whitman ID card swipe. Many campus functions will operate under reduced hours and schedules (see below).
In addition, for the next two weeks, Whitman Today will only be published on Mondays and Thursdays. Content submissions are due by noon on the previous business day.

Faculty Member To Co-Lead Audubon Field Trip
|
Research Scientist and Adjunct Assistant Professor in Brain, Behavior and Cognition Ben Vernasco will co-lead a field trip to the mouth of the Walla Walla River on Saturday, March 15. Participants will learn about the floodplain restoration project being planned by McNary National Wildlife Refuge and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. Vernasco will explain how bioacoustics monitoring efforts are being used to quantify which terrestrial wildlife species use the area, both before and after the project is finished. The tour group will depart from the Harper Joy Theatre parking lot at 8 a.m. and will return in the afternoon. More information is available in the March issue of The Magpiper.

Last Call To Run for ASWC
|
The Associated Students of Whitman College (ASWC) are holding general elections for 2025–2026 and petitions to run for elected positions are due on Friday, March 14. Positions include the ASWC President and chairs of the following committees: Student Development; Communications; Nominations and Appointments; Finance; Sustainability; and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Staff Coffee Break Monday

The Office of the President will host a Staff Coffee Break on Monday, March 17, at 10 a.m. at Penrose Library. Enjoy a break to socialize with your colleagues and learn more about our campus library.

Senior Commencement Speaker Deadline Extended
|
The Class of 2025 is extending the deadline for seniors to apply to speak for up to five minutes during the commencement ceremony as a representative of the class. Interested applicants should email an outline or first draft of their proposed speech to northajl@whitman.edu. The new deadline for submissions is Wednesday, April 9.

Photo (Whitman Athletics): Earlier this week, the Whitman men’s golf team finished in fourth place at the CLU Kingsman Invitational. This weekend, the men’s and women’s golf teams will both compete at the Willamette Valley Cup in Salem, Oregon.
